The study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, is one of the largest linking brain dysfunction with obesity. Researchers analyzed 35,000 neuroimaging scans from more than 17,000 people and found that weight has a serious impact on brain function. In addition to increasing the risk for developing Alzheimer’s, people with unhealthy weights were more likely to experience other brain-centric issues, such as depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, addiction, suicide and schizophrenia. When it comes to concentration and the ability to effectively handle work tasks, people with unhealthy weights were less likely to perform well and unable to focus compared to those with healthy weights.
But there’s good news, too.
